COMACCHIO LAGOONS
The Comacchio Lagoons
offer the possibility to appreciate the unique connection between the
history of this area and its people.
The boat trips through
the Lagoons is really unforgettable experience. The boat tours starts
from Stazione Foce, and incluedes a stop in the historical fisheries,
which have been transformed into authentic museums. The exhibits tell
the story of a daily life dedicated to eel fishing, realized by the
lavoriero: a tool made of posts and grilles, with its distinctive
V-shape. The mature fish are caught in this special trap when make
their way from the lagoons to sea to reproduce
A lot of tours are
possible for hikers or cyclists lovers. You can discover the salt
pans, where were produced the “white gold” of Comacchio, with
regular guided tour with skilled guides. A ruote of 7 km among ponds,
canals and sea water collection basin. This extreme environement is
preferred as nesting site by many species, including flamingos.
From Stazione Foce you
can go another interesting bike ride to Boscoforte peninsula.
Ride along the northen
edge of the Lagoons the dirt track leads to Zavelea-Fossa di Porto
Lagoons, to Agosta bank and to Boscoforte peninsula where lives wild
Delta-Camargue horses. This beautiful strip of land can be entered
only by appointment and with a guide.
