Ravenna and Street Art

Ravenna and its Lidos

Street art or Urban art is how mass media called those art forms created in public places, often illegally, with a lot of different techniques: spray cans, stickers, stencil art, videos, sculptures, ecc.

BONOBOLABO
Bonobolabo was born from an idea by Marco Miccoli.
It is conceived as a hybrid space dedicated to skateboards’ sale and art as well. It shortly became an important reference point for the promotion of young artists, allowing them to reach out to the public more freely than they would in a traditional art gallery. A place were new forms of art ad communication can be displayed. Illustration, photography and street art are the main trends joined in Bonobolabo’s space.

SUBSIDENZE

Art makes its way through Ravenna, literally. The creative spirit of the former Byzantine capital is always lively and open to contemporary art. This way, for a few years now, Street Art was given more space by turning some urban areas of the town in actual free museums open to everybody, tourists and citizens.

The result is an invasion of art, shapes and colour, which redesigns urban space in a creative way and reconsiders surfaces that would otherwise have stayed featureless, if not slowly worn away.

Part of this result was also possible thanks to the annual festival “Subsidenze” (Subsidences) which, since 2014, brings to Ravenna foreign and Italian famous artists every year. At the same time, it gives young local street artists a chance to express their creativity.

These street artworks are located all over town, creating an art and discovery itinerary that involves many neighborhoods, such as the town’s dock (named “darsena”). The mural paintings can be reached on foot, however it might be better, since this urban area is quite large, to go by bike and easily move through the streets.
