A route to
discovering food in the city of Forlimpopoli, also known as the city of flavour.
Hometown of the great Pellegrino Artusi, the father of Italian cooking, to this
day it keeps the tradition of flavours and taste. Given that a meal without
wine is like a day without sun, a visit to Bertinoro the city of wine can’t be
missed. Here can be found the most outstanding wines from Emilia Romagna.
- Casa Artusi: the first “Wine and food culture
center” dedicated to homecooking. Located in the historic center of
Forlimpopoli in an old monastery, inside the block of Chiesa dei Servi, it was
build towards the second half of the 15th century. The building
conserves the altarpiece “Annunciation” painted in 1533 by Marco Palmezzano,
student of Melozzo da Forlì. Part of the network Food Museums of Emilia
Romagna, Casa Artusi is open for enthusiasts and fans, regular men and women,
professionals and lovers of food, scholars and researchers that want to
increase their knowledge and experience of home cooking.
- Rocca of Forlimpopoli: is found in the center of the city
and it’s one of the most beautiful Roccas in Romagna. Built in the 15th
century on the ruins of an old cathedral and later finished by Pino Ordelaffi
and Caterina Sforza, it was initially called Salvaterra (Saver of the Land).
Over the centuries various changes were made. An important restoration project
started in 1970 and finished in 1990 has brought back its former decorum. At
present in the north wing are located the municipal offices; in the east wing,
on the first floor is located the large double-height room reserved to the City council, here was moved
the ancient stone emblem of Forlimpopoli, dating back to the second half of the
Eighteenth century.
- Rocca of Bertinoro: was probably built around the year
1000. It is interesting to note how its raised position permitted to Bertinoro
to defend itself so well over the centuries to make it almost unassailable.
Another important trait is that the Rocca was built in such way to blend
perfectly with the spur of rocks on which it rests and this works as an added
natural means of protection. The Rocca is the headquarter of the Museum of
Sacred Art and the University Center of Bertinoro.
