Green holidays
Two large parks within the town and a cycle-pedestrian route in the greenery are the perfect alternatives to the beach. The Parco del Gelso isvery close to the centre of the town and its lake and facilities will be relaxing and fun for everyone. Otherwise, the 10-km natural routes of the Sentieri dell’Uso are the best choice for running, mountain-biking and losing yourself in the nature.
The Parco del Gelso (Mulberry ’s Park)
The Parco del Gelso is the largest park of the town and one of the most extended green areas near the Romagna coast. It is the green lung of the town and its name is due to the lake of the same name inside the park, where beautiful swans and fun ducks dwell for a long time of the year. This is one of the most fun destinations for adults and children, whether they are residents or tourists, thanks to the luxuriant local vegetation and the theme parks, such as the playground for children, the Giardino delle Farfalle (the Butterflies’ Garden) or the new Jurassic Gelso (Jurassic Mulberry) area, where tens of fibreglass artefacts recreate the prehistory. The Parco del Gelso is also an excellent place to relax while fishing, jogging, working out in the gym in the open sky or simply having a walk in the shade of the vegetation and the coolness of the lake. In the surroundings you will also find the sports hall, the tennis fields and the Gelso sports centre, which comes equipped with a swimming pool.
Sentieri per l ’Uso (Uso ’s River Paths)
The Sentieri per l’Uso cycle-pedestrian route sails up the windy Uso’s riverbank, which divides Bellaria from Igea Marina and shapes the port of the town at the mouth in the Adriatic sea. The river’s source lies on the right side of the bridge in via Ravenna in Bellaria and continues for 6 kilometres through San Mauro Pascoli, where it shifts from the right bank of the river to its left one. On the path you will find areas for temporary stops, information panels, apparatuses for working out and children playgrounds. You will also find many popular sites along the route, including the old Santa Margherita’s Church and Villa Torlonia, both dating back to the 18th century; the old Bellaria’s Furnace, a nice example of industrial archaeology; the Rio Salto and its poplars, which were declaimed by the poet Giovanni Pascoli in his famous poem La Cavallina Storna (The Dappled-Grey Filly); finally, the Donegallia’s Abbey and the Benelli’s Castle. The fauna and flora of the area are also worth mentioning and you will be able to admire specimens of grey heron and kingfisher during the nesting season.
