It starts with a visit to the House Museum Pascoli, which became a national monument in 1924 and partially rebuilt after World War II to turn it into a House Museum with objects, furniture and rare items belonging to the Pascoli family. The kitchen, the only room in the house to remain intact during the war, has preserved the original structure the large fireplace and the stone sink; at the first floor there is the bedroom where the poet was born, which preserves the ancient wooden cradle, handwritten poems related to the poet’s homeland and the study that the poet had in Bologna when he taught Italian Literature at the University. The garden is enriched with a botanical-poetic path where each species still present is remembered by verses of the poet, it also hosts the bronze bust dedicated to him. Bordering with the garden, the Chapel of the Madonna dell’Acqua rises up, remembered by Pascoli in his lyrics and transformed in the '30s into a Chapel to the fallen of all wars.
The story of the poet and his birthplace is interwined with another important house: Villa Torlonia, also known as “La Torre”, nowadays Parco Poesia Pascoli. In effect, Ruggero Pascoli, Giovanni’s father, was for a time administrator of the own belonging to the Torlonia Princes; famous poems such as “La Cavallina Storna” and “X Agosto” recall his murder which occurred in an ambush on August 10th 1867. The complex of the Torre, a strategic site since Roman times, was declared by the Ministry of Education artifact particularly interesting under the historical point of view as an example of Villa Romagnola of the XVII/XVIII century. Nowadays owned by the Municipality of San Mauro Pascoli, Villa Torlonia Parco Poesia Pascoli is home to events related to art and poetry, music and dance, art and history, food and wine and traditions.
