The tour stars from Trepponti bridge, the monumental maritime gate to the town: here stands the old fishmarket, a beautiful 17th Century building. 

From the Ponte degli Sbirri, so called because it is situated next to the old prisons, you can admire the Ospedale degli Infermi, soon after will become Museo Delta Antico, and Palazzo Bellini, an elegant  19th century palace. 

The restaurants of the historical centre, boast menu filled with exciting opportunities to taste loacal fish dishes: eel cooked in any number of ways and  flavoursome wines of the Bosco Eliceo Doc. 


The eel festival is an important events to taste delicious dishes and to visit Comacchio and its lagoons, it take place the last week-end of September and the first two of October. 


Walking along the canale maggiore, you will arrive to the Torre dell'orologio and to the Mercantile Lodge, going on Piazzatta Ugo Bassi you will reach  the 17th Century cathedral of Sant Cassiano with its bell tower. 

Going ahead to Via Mazzini you will lead the Loggiato dei Cappuccini: portico with 143 arches, under these, you will find the entrance to Manifattura dei Marinati, a factory where cooks and marinates eels. 

The 12 fireplaces of the Fire room , still blaze from October to December, spit-roasting whole eels before the to marinate. 

Don't miss a change to visit the sanctuary of Santa Maria in Aula Regia, where stands a statue of the virgin which arrive mistriously from the sea
